Man In Court Over Assaulting Two Policemen

A 28-year-old suspect, Hassan Sulaimon, was on Tuesday arraigned before Magistrate Olusola Aluko for allegedly assaulting two policemen.
The charge sheet disclosed that the accused person assaulted two police officers with Force Numbers 354712 and 395705, while performing their lawful duties.
The officers assaulted were Sergeant Afolabi Taofeek and Corporal Adetula Samuel, who were reportedly bitten by the suspect.

According to the charge sheet, the accused person committed an offence, which is contrary to and punishable under section 356 of the criminal laws of Osun State 2003.
The accused was also alleged of having in his possession, a weed substance, suspected to be Indian hemp, an offence contrary to section 430(1) of the criminal laws of Osun State.
It further disclosed that the suspect committed the offences on September 5, 2013 at 23, Arikalamu Street, Oluode area in Osogbo, the state capital, at about 5.00pm.
The accused, who was not represented by any lawyer, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge levelled against him.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Solomon Oladele, did not object admitting the accused person to bail, but urged the court to ensure that a credible surety stood for him to ensure that he would not not jump bail.
Aluko then admitted the accused person to bail in the sum of N50,000 and two sureties in like sum, adding that the sureties’ addresses should be verified by the police and must be within the court’s jurisdiction.
He added that they must be tax payers with three years’ tax clearance certificates and affidavit of means before adjourning the case till October 30, 2013 for mention.
