In Ogun: New Born Baby Stolen, Culprit Arrested

Adebola Titilayo, a nurse, is the owner of a private maternity home in Arogun, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State. But beyond her legal duties, she is skilled in other acts, such as her recent stealing of a baby shortly after its delivery at the Adebola Maternity.

Actually, Titilayo committed the act on June 13, 2015, according to The Nation. But the law has since caught up with her as she is cooling off at the Ewekoro division of the Ogun State police command.

Reports from The Nation say Titilayo snatched the baby a little after helping the mother deliver at her Adebola Maternity home.

Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Police Public Relations Officer from the Ogun State command has reacted to the incident, confirming Titilayo’s arrest as well as the safety of the baby, according to The Nation.

Adejobi disclosed that she was nabbed last Friday, August, 7.

Having successfully tricked the mother, her patient, into believing she had a miscarriage, Titilayo proceeded to assume ownership of the baby, reports say. Her luck however ran out when the actual mother of the baby was tipped off, and then the police alerted about the incident.

Adejobi said the police command was informed after neighbours suddenly noticed Titilayo with a baby, when she was never seen pregnant prior to the time.

Also, she was unfitting as a mother as she couldn’t breast-feed the new baby.

Quoting Adejobi; ‘[The neighbours] informed the mother who later reported the case to the police in Ewekoro on 7th August,2015.
‘In the course of police investigation, It has been revealed that the suspect, a mother of seven(7), had issues with her initial marriage and got married to another “rich” man, whom the nurse wanted to have at least a baby for him, for reasons known to her.
‘The police Operatives, who made professional moves, have recovered the baby alive and unhurt. The suspect has given credible statement that will assist the police and the matter will soon be charged to court.

‘The Commissioner of Police Ogun State, Abdulmajid Ali, has commended the police operatives for the good Job they did and directed that a proper investigation be carried out so as to get useful information required in the prosecution of the case.’

In the wake of this, the Ogun State commissioner of police, Abdulmajid Ali has issued a directive asking operators of maternity homes in the state to deal within the confines of the law, as well as hire only credible hands who respect the ethics of the profession, or face the full wrath of the law.
