The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Cordelia Nwawe, paraded the suspects: James Etim, 24, Charles Essien, 27, and Utebe Archibong, 29 before newsmen at the state command headquarters.
According to the PPRO, the suspects go around Uyo metropolis using a commercial tricycle (Keke Napep) to pick unsuspecting female passengers before hypnotising and raping them.While Etim and Essien pretended to be passengers, Archibong rode the Keke Napep.
They were however apprehended by a team of State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID and Special Anti-Robbery, SARS, following a tip-off by one of their victims.
Their last victim, an undergraduate of the University of Uyo was said to have reported the matter to the police despite threats from them.
The PPRO disclosed that while aboard the tricycle, their victim was hypnotised and then taken to a place where she was raped several times.
Thereafter, the suspects made her to swear to an oath never to reveal the incident to anyone, else she would die but she summoned the courage and narrated her ordeal to her roommates in the hostel, who advised her to report the incident to the police who swooped on the rapists.
Confessing to the crime, the suspects said they have lost count of women they have raped.
According to the trio, who said they had been raping for a very long time, many young women have fallen prey to their pranks.
The PPRO further noted that the suspects are in police custody and will be charged to court soon.
