Governor Ayo Fayose’s short reign as leader of Ekiti state has been more suspense-filled than some Nollywood flicks.

He has gone to war with the APC Speaker, who later got impeached, (he would initially deny involvement), a PDP lawmaker was at some point, be illegally elected as Speaker of the Ekiti state House of Assembly by 7 PDP lawmakers, who are in the minority in the House.

Adewale Omirin, the de facto Speaker of the state House of Assembly alongside 19 other APC lawmakers, the majority, have gone awol, last seen in Lagos, the headquarters of the All Progressives Congress.

In their absence the new Speaker, Dele Olugbemi has led the House, and on Monday, Fayose presented alongside him, the appropriation bill for the 2015 fiscal year to the 7 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers.

The All Progressives Congress lawmakers, who are in the majority, were absent at the presentation.

The budget estimate was N80 billion. N48.7 billion was earmarked for recurrent expenditure, while capital expenditure will gulp N31.9 billion

During the presentation, Fayose said: “You (Olugbemi) are the Speaker of this Assembly, I repeat, you are the Speaker of this Assembly and nobody can remove you from this position. I want to emphasize that this Speaker will remain there till June.

“If they (APC lawmakers) like, they should be meeting and sitting in the Houses of Assembly in other states. Any attempt to overrun this state will be resisted by our people.”
