Following the death of the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade, on January 19, a new Olu has emerged in Ibadan and his name is High Chief Saliu Adetunji.

As the Head of the Balogun line of succession, Adetunji automatically ascends the throne in line with the dictates of the Ibadan traditional stool as the highest ranked chief from the Balogun line of succession.

According to a source who spoke to Loud Whispers on the relationship between the new Olu and K1: “The new Olu is a lover of fuji music and what  a lot of people don’t know is that for years, he bank rolled fuji star, K1’s musical career. In fact, he is the CEO of Babalaje Records, the platform to which K1 got signed to in the early 70s.

“Even when K1‘s musical career was not picking up, he stood by him, encouraging him and pumping money into his career for many years because he believed in Kwam 1. He always told him that one day he would become a very big star.

“And when the big break came in 1984 when K1 released Talazo, which was his first major hit and which catapulted him to stardom, he never forgot his roots despite his wealth unlike most artistes and they have been working together over the years. In fact, last year, when K1 held the wedding for his three daughters, the new Olu was there for the three days the weddings lasted.

“They go back a long way and it is not easy to find an artiste sticking to one label for so long but that is what obtains between the new Olu and K1,” the source concluded.
