Kidnappers Abduct Dayo Adeneye’s Father in-law, Demand N10m Ransom

                
Dayo Adeneye’s father-in-law, 74 year-old Chief Nigbenebor has been kidnapped. He was abducted in Benin, and according to his family, the kidnappers are demanding N10million as ransom as against N40million they initially asked for. Caroline Adeneye’s publicist, Sunday Adebayo confirmed this in a message he sent out today.

At least 10 people died when a boat carrying 35 passengers bound for Port Harcourt capsized and sank today. National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) co-ordinator Onimode Bandele told AFP:
“We can confirm that 10 persons died early today when a Port Harcourt-bound passenger boat sank. Rescue efforts are ongoing and the agency is already working with other bodies and security agencies in the rescue efforts.”

On Wednesday, 27 August, the Director of Defence Information, Major-General Chris Olukolade said the Nigerian Army will imminently take back the Islamic caliphate of Gwoza from the forces of Boko Haram.
After initially being in denial about Abubakar Shekau’s declaration that Gwoza now belongs to the sect, the Army boss has said moves are already in place by Nigerian forces to regain the sovereignty of the town in Borno state.
During a telephone conversation with Channels Television, Olukolade said the army is working to reverse Shekau’s proclamation. “We are definitely working to reverse all those tendencies. We are not conceding any portion of this country to a group of terrorists and the required operation to reverse that is ongoing,”

Cult Shrine Causes Panic In Ogun State

Residents and monarchs of Onigbedu Community in the Ewekoro Local Government area of Ogun State, are fighting over the building of an Oro shrine in the commuity.

The planned shrine has caused panic among residents as they said that the shrine would disturb the inter-religious peace in the community.

The monarchs, led by Oba Matthew Ajibulu, however said the shrine would be of no disturbance to the residents.

Some residents who are currently living in fear since the announcements of the planned shrine was made by monarchs said their fear was confirmed when some residents were injured during a protest against the construction of the shrine.

One of them, the Chairman of Onigbedu Community Development Association, Lukman Kazeem, described the shrine as a threat.

6-Week-Old Baby Kidnapped At Gunpoint

The mother of Delano Wilson, a 6-week-old baby boy who was kidnapped at gunpoint in Indianapolis Wednesday, has made an impassioned plea for his safe return.
“Please, just please bring my baby back,” the boy’s mother, Taniasha Perkins, told reporters on Thursday. “He’s just one month old. I love my child. I just gave birth to him. He is my one and only son, my first born.”
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department issued an Amber Alert following the kidnapping, which happened around 12 p.m. Wednesday, in an alley in the 1400 block of Henry Street. The child is believed to be in extreme danger.

13 men who are suspected to be drug peddlers in Lekki area of Lagos have been arrested by men of Lagos State Taskforce on Environment al and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit. They were arrested after residents of the area had written several complaints to the government on activities of the suspects in the area.

After investigating, the task force officers stormed their hideout on Wole Olateru Street, Lekki Phase 1 on Tuesday and arrested 13 of them even though some escaped.

Lawrence Isidor, a 57-year-old man has been remanded for two weeks for stealing a mosquito net in Happy Land Estate, Ajah, Lagos.
The defendant allegedly slapped the complainant, Gracious Odo, after she accused him of stealing the net.
The Police arraigned him on 11 August at Tinubu Magistrate court, on a two-count charge of stealing and assault, to which he pleaded not guilty.

Boko Haram Insurgents Relocate From Sambisa Forest

Information coming in from Borno State in northern Nigeria suggest that the Boko Haram insurgents might be changing their base from the Sambisa forest moving towards southern Borno.
According to a report published by Sahara Reporters today, Wednesday, 27 August, 2014, residents living near Sambisa forest in Borno State have reported seeing a large number of Boko Haram militants leaving the thick forest Tuesday’s morning and moving towards southern Borno.
It was gathered that a security source also confirmed the account of the villagers.
The source informed that Nigeria’s intelligence agents were aware that members of the Islamist sect, who had been holed up in Sambisa forest, seemed to be relocating to the large territories they have captured in their recent attacks.

EBOLA: FG Orders All Schools to Remain Shut Till October 13

The Federal Government has taken far-reaching decisions to curtail the spread of the deadly Ebola Virus in the country as it postponed the resumption of all primary and secondary schools till October 13.
Announcing the shift in resumption date in Abuja, Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau, said the decision to do so became necessary in view of the risk posed by Ebola which could easily spread through schools.
His words: “All primary and secondary schools, both public and private are to remain closed until Monday October 13, 2014 which is the new school resumption date for all schools throughout the Federation”.

One of the nation’s most intriguing pastors, Pastor Samuel Sadela is dead.

He passed on this Sunday and a condolence register is on at his Gospel Apostolic Church in Lagos on Tuesday evening.
Church members and officials have refused to talk about the death of their church founder to the press.
Sadela is said to be 108 years old and he started his career as a man of God for 76 years.
He first got married in 1934 but the marriage lasted only 21 years, he had seven kids but none of them lived beyond their infancy.
He then got married again in 1965 and had four kids but only two survived, his second wife passed on in 2001.

Nigeria Can Eradicate Ebola By First Week Of September – NCDC

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has assured that Nigeria can eradicate the deadly Ebola Virus Disease from the country by September if it sustains its current containment efforts.

This was the position of the project director of the centre, Prof. Abdulsalami Nasidi, while making a presentation at a workshop organised by the National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA) on Molecular Diagnosis and Treatment for Hemorrhagic and Zoonotic Viral Diseases, yesterday in Abuja.
“Let me say here that if the current efforts at tackling the disease are sustained, we should be able to defeat Ebola on or before September 6, 2014. But, that is not say the threat of reappearance will no longer be there”, he said.
Prof. Nasidi, who said Ebola was already on its way out of the country, urged Nigerians to stop panicking over the disease, saying it was not as deadly as it is being painted, adding that it is not also easily spread until the living host becomes visibly sick.

The Dutsen Alhaji Police Division of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Abuja, has arrested a woman, Mrs. Roseline Uzoamaka, after she brutalised her 14-year-old relative, identified simply as Sarah, because she was bed-wetting.

Uzoamaka allegedly forced the teenager to sit on a burning electric cooker until the girl sustained severe burns in her private parts as a punishment for urinating on the bed. The incident occurred last Saturday, August 23, at the family’s residence in Gwarimpa, Abuja. Sarah, it was gathered, was
Uzoamaka’s sister-in-law, being a younger sister to her husband. On the fateful day, Roseline Uzoamaka had scolded Sarah for continuously bedwetting, and asked her to sit on the burning stove until her genitals were cooked by the heat.

Sokoto State Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko has revealed that three governors from the PDP are set to join the leading National opposition party, that All Progressive Congress (APC).

Two of the governors to join the opposition are from the North. The other one is from the South, he said and that their move will happen in September.
Wamakko said: “We met here to first and foremost put a functional zonal office and other offices to fill the gap and to hold zonal rallies to kick start our party’s victory stride by 2015.
“As I am talking to you now, three PDP governors are set to join the APC between now and the end of September. Two of the governors are from the North while the third one is from the South.”

The Magistrate Court in Ibadan has remanded a 19 year old man, Arogundade Opeyemi in prison until September 12 for allegedly defiling a three year old girl in a church.

In a statement released by the Oyo State Police Command, Arogundade was alleged to have had carnal knowledge of the daughter of his neighbour inside the church at Kuola area of Apata, Ibadan, Oyo State on the 2nd of August 2014.
