It all started last Tuesday, when Obama spoke with Kindle Singles editor David Blum and recalled how the goals the average American once strived for included a good education and a steady job, and how most felt somewhat satisfied when they reached them.
“Were there (other) things that we might have liked to have? Sure," the president said. "But partly, I think, there has also been a shift in culture. We weren’t exposed to the things we didn’t have in the same way that kids these days are. There was not that window into the lifestyles of the rich and famous. Kids weren’t monitoring every day what Kim Kardashian was wearing, or where Kanye West was going on vacation, and thinking that somehow that was the mark of success.”
While the comment didn't seem to be intended as a slam against the celeb couple, the Kardashian matriarch felt defensive all the same.
"I find it so odd that he's picking on Kim Kardashian and Kanye West," Jenner told her "Kris" audience during Friday's show. "Well, Kanye West, first of all, doesn't go on vacation. Ever."
And as for Kim? Well, Jenner insists she's worked for everything she has.
"Kim Kardashian is the hardest-working young lady in the world," she said. "She never sleeps; she never stops; she never slows down and works so hard for what she's got."
In fact, according to Jenner, it's the commander-in-chief who has a skewed view of what the American Dream is really all about.
"It's really great that people aspire to get a great job ... but I wasn't aware that you could only set the bar so high and that we could only dream so big," she said. "I was taught: Dream big, work hard and you could have whatever you wanted."
Just like Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.
