Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois are battling to be Chelsea's first-team 'keeper
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that he will tell Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois who will be his number-one for the season on Sunday, just a day before their Premier Leauge opener against newly-promoted, Burnley.
The Blues boss has had the selection dilemma all Summer, and so far, he has refused to give away who is his number-one, but speaking after their last pre-season friendly last night, Mourinho revealed that his decision will be made on Sunday.
Mourinho has given match-time to both 'keepers throughout pre-season, and has also played Mark Schwarzer, but the Australian is not in the running for the number-one jersey.
Courtois, who has spent the last three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid, is the first genuine rival of Cech's, who has been Chelsea's number-one for the past decade, and Mourinho has revealed that his decision will be made this weekend.
‘I played [Courtois] 90 minutes because he was injured and he didn’t play last weekend.
‘Petr played the two matches in Turkey, the first half against Ferencvaros.
‘[Mark] Schwarzer played the second half against Ferencvaros.
‘Courtois, since he arrived, played only 45 minutes against Werder Bremen and he needs to play.
‘I want to give minutes to everybody so the decision that today he played, was not me saying he’s the first choice for Monday, but because he didn’t play in the last three matches.
Both Courtois and Cech have stated that they are not happy to stay at the club if they are deployed as back-up goalkeepers.
