The title of this piece is so ironic that it surely elicits mirthless laughter from you, our dear readers. Unlike what the Yorubas will readily tell you that, 'The whip used for the older wife is hanging on the doorpost to be used on the new wife,' a lot of our career Nollywood home breakers have gone on to find love with the men they succeeded in snatching from their 'rightful owners.' In this piece, TOFARATI IGE follows the marriages of top Nollywood actresses who 'took over' other women's men, and are enjoying the fruits of matrimony.
LOLA ALAO
Often described as the leader of Yoruba actresses that date married men, and even acts as a pimp for them, Lola Alao has had more than her fair share of marriage scandals. The actress got married for the second time recently to one Wale Ajibola Yakubu, who is reported to be an ex-convict after serving time in a Kuwait jail for credit card fraud. She has had a string of unfruitful affairs with married men, and it is alleged that it was Lola who linked other actresses to the treasurer of the Lagos branch of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), MC Oluomo.
It should also be recalled that Bisi Ibidapo Obe, who has a baby for Hon. Dino Melaye, fingered Lola as the person who introduced them to each other and also engineered their break-up as she claimed that Lola was also dating Melaye at the time. Described by her ex-husband, Dare Ogunlana, as a woman who would bring ruin to any man she marries, Lola was once rumoured to be dating a certain Biodun Bodunrin, Holland-based Nigerian who is married with kids.
Though she came out to refute the claim, she was also said to have had a thing with Gbenga Bankole, popularly called Gbenga Astoria, of the Astoria Catering World. E24-7 MAGAZINE gathered that Lola's marriage to Wale is water-tight at the moment; partly because she sacrificed a lot to ensure that the marriage came to pass. It is common knowledge that Lola has always lusted after the ‘green card’ and Wale, ex-convict or not, is the answer to her prayers as he is an American citizen.
INI EDO
'Ini Edo is beautiful and curvy,' must be the understatement of the century. The dark-skinned Akwa Ibom-born thespian has made her mark in the Nigerian movie industry, and her beauty rarely goes unnoticed. However, the dimple cheeked actress has a side of her that is not so elegant. Classed among the actresses that have become the nightmare of many married couples, the fear of Ini Edo seemed to be the beginning of wisdom for many married ladies.
Ini got married to Philips Ehiagwina, an America-based Nigerian in 2008, and the marriage is still together, even though they have no off springs between them. Ini reportedly began dating Phillips when he was still married to fellow actress, Ruth Okoro, and this ultimately resulted in Philips divorcing Ruth who had sacrificed so much for him. Despite a thick cloud of bad rumours always hanging over their marriage, Ini and Phillip still seem to be happily married and in love
BUKKY WRIGHT
Christened Oluwabukola Ajoke Asake Wright at birth, her beautiful looks have attracted her sustained attention from men of different walks of life. Bukky Wright has been the architect of many controversies with married men in the industry and outside. The actress has been linked to married men like Corporate Pictures boss, Alhaji Abdulrazak Abdullahi; Rotimi Makinde and Bolaji Basia. She was involved in a messy media fight with Basia when their union broke up, with Bolaji accusing her of lesbianism and fetish acts.
She got married to US big boy, Adewale Onitiri, in 2011, and she seems to have relocated to America to be close to her husband, who was reported to have banned her from acting. Wale, who studied at the University of East Texas, lost his late wife, Adebisi, to the dreaded cancer disease. There are no cracks on the wall of her marriage as she seems to be having the best of times with Wale.
STELLA DAMASUS
There is no contesting the fact that Stella Damasus is a pretty lady; it is also without a doubt, that she is one actress who has a lot of controversies trailing her. Stella first got married to Jaiye Aboderin who passed away in 2004 of a heart attack while he was playing basketball.
Not long after Jaiye's death, Stella met and fell in love with Emeka Nzeribe, though their relationship didn't last for long. However, Stella was in the news for the wrong reasons earlier in the year when she was rumoured to have gotten married to Doris Simeon's estranged hubby, Daniel Adenimokan.
Though the couple has not come out to categorically deny or confirm their relationship, it is common knowledge that members of the public blame Stella for gate-crashing Doris' union. Even though, Daniel's relationship with Doris had started developing cracks when he met Stella, many people believe that Stella has a hand in the hitherto lovely's couple's marital woes. The couple are still living happily together for now, with Stella Damasus regularly dispensing advice on love, sex and marriage.
FOLUKE DARAMOLA
Her marriage to Kayode Salako in February this year generated so much controversy that it provided fodder for journalists many weeks on end. Kayode was hitherto married to Bukola Salako who bore him three sons, before Foluke Daramola stepped into the picture.
This was amidst revelations made by journalist, Bukola Fasuyi, who introduced the duo, that Foluke, who has been married once before, used 'juju' to get Kayode to marry her.
However, Kayode, who is the coordinator of “Fasholamania,” debunked the claims, stating that he consulted numerous clerics before marrying Foluke. Kayode declared that if he was to do it over again, he would still go for Foluke as she is the apple of his eyes.
IRETI OSAYEMI
Thick-set Ireti Osayemi is the wife of actor and movie director, Bankole Adeoye popularly called Banky Adeoye. When she began dating him, he had a dutiful wife who bore him two sons. Ireti had her first child for Banky in November 2007, before getting married in 2008. She also had a second child for him in 2009. Her marriage is currently on solid ground.
