Taraba State Governor, Mr. Danbaba Suntai

Taraba State Governor, Mr. Danbaba Suntai, who has been abroad for medical treatment following the injuries he sustained in a plane crash in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, is expected back in Nigeria on Saturday, his wife, Hauwa, has said.
Suntai, who was initially flown to a German hospital for treatment after surviving the air crash in October 2012, has been under intensive care treatment at the Sea View Hospital Rehabilitation Centre and Home in New York, the United States, as part of his rehabilitation programme.
The governor’s wife confirmed in a telephone interview that her husband was billed to leave the hospital on Saturday.  One of Suntai’s associates in Abuja also said plans were on course to give him a rousing welcome on arrival in Abuja before his departure for Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.
According to the Taraba first lady, all arrangements have been concluded for the return of the governor, who had spent some months at the rehabilitation centre.
Mrs Suntai said she  was happy at the outflow of care, support and prayers that people from different parts of the country showed to the governor and his family while he was undergoing treatment.
While in New York, the governor received many dignitaries, including an August 3 visit by a fact-finding delegation raised by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and led by Senator Hope Uzodinma.
Apart from a telephone conversation with President Goodluck Jonathan and  Vice-President Namadi Sambo, Suntai also received Benue State Governor, Mr.  Gabriel Suswam, who raised the hope that the governor’s recovery pace would soon allow him to come back to work.
Uzodinma, who headed the panel set up by the PDP amidst rising tension in the state over whether or not Suntai should be declared incapacitated to continue in office, had said during the visit to the governor: “We are impressed with what we have seen and we thank God for that. We will take back home what we have seen and we will inform the leadership of the party.
“We are impressed; we are also happy that the governor is recovering. We will still go back home and relate what we have seen.’’
Suntai’s absence from the seat of governance and the uncertainty surrounding his recovery, had generated speculations with some asking for his impeachment to enable his deputy, Alhaji Garba Umar, who has been acting as governor since the accident, to take over.
