EXPOSED: Court Remands Omisore For Raping Minor In Osogbo

Police in Osogbo, Osun State, western Nigeria has arrested a 22-year-old man,Abiodun Omisore, for allegedly raping a minor.
According to the charge sheet of the case made available to newsmen, the accused was alleged to have had unlawful carnal knowledge of a minor (name withheld).
It was further gathered from the charge that the suspect allegedly committed the offence on May 28, 2014, at about 5:30 pm, along Alekuwodo, Osogbo, the state capital of Osun.

Appearing before Magistrate Olusola Aluko at the Osogbo Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 6 June, 2014, the margistrate declined to grant the accused bail, saying that he should be remanded in custody at Ilesa Prison, pending when a formal bail application would be filed by the defence counsel.

Meanwhile, police prosecutor, inspector Fagboyinbo Abiodun, said that the offence committed was contrary to and punishable under Section 249 and 357 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol.11 Laws of Osun, 2003.
The accused however pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of rape and indecent assault slammed against him.
Defence counsel, Barrister Musleemat Nagode, prayed the court to grant her client bail in the most liberal terms.
The magistrate, however, overruled the oral bail application by the defence counsel, saying formal bail application should be filed.
