A 37-year-old striker also revealed that he was not planning to retire from football and would leave Stamford Bridge to continue his playing career.

Drogba who was toasting his fourth Premier League title with the club, said:

“You can’t do better than winning the Champions League final but today is also a special one. Fourth league in nine years at Chelsea, it is a great, great club.

“That’s their (the fans’) trophy. They travel with us every weekend, they are always with us, they are the best fans and it’s a way to say thank you to them.”

After the trophy presentation Drogba took the microphone and addressed the Chelsea fans, who gave him a great send off.

“You are the best fans in the world – I love you guys,” he said.

The footballer admitted that being carried off shoulder high by his team mates was a memorable moment. According to him, the latest title was as good as anything the team had won previously.

“To be number one Premier League team from day one, that’s special. John Terry just decided to lift me up and carry me off the pitch. It was an emotional moment, really emotional.”

Speaking to Sky Sports Drogba confessed that in future he hopes to return to Chelsea but in another role.

“I spoke with the manager and the board and we all agreed that as I wanted to enjoy a bit more the pitch, they will let me go. I will always come back here. It is good to know the club wants me to come back and be part of the future of this team. I am happy how we found this solution,” he said.

Shortly after the match Drogba took to his account in Twitter to say goodbye to his numerous fans.
