Man arrested after shooting one-year-old girl dead in her cot

A 23-year-old man was arrested after a fatal shooting that took life of one-year-old baby girl in Compton, Los Angeles, US, on 9 February. Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Ray Patterson has been arrested for killing Autumn Johnson Autumn Johnson was sleeping in her crib when gunmen fired at least five rounds of bullets into a converted garage, one of which hit her in the face. Soon afterwards neighbours saw the girl’s dad running out of the home screaming and crying with his lifeless baby daughter in his arms.

 Someone called the police and little Autumn was rushed to hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The girl’s 24-year-old father later admitted that he is a member of a street gang and this bullet was likely meant for him. The alleged killer Ray Patterson was arrested on suspicion of murder this week. She was sitting — just standing in her crib — and out of nowhere, gunshots. Her eyes dazed, her voice soft, she spoke swiftly as she shook her head. That’s all. That’s all I can say. That’s it. I miss my baby, I love my baby, but she is gone.

Detectives are continuing to look for additional evidence and suspects. Patterson is currently being held in downtown Los Angeles without bail and was due in court for arraignment on Wednesday.
