Also arrested and paraded by the Lagos police was another impersonator who had been parading himself as Mr Fatai Owoseni, the state commissioner of police to defraud people.
Nigerian Tribune reports that the suspects were paraded by the commissioner on Monday, November 30. Owoseni disclosed that the suspects were soliciting for fund using his name through a fake Facebook account that also contained his photograph. They also opened a bank account that they called ‘CP Owoseni Foundation.’
Owoseni said: “The command wishes to inform members of the public that fraudsters have continued to devise different methods of duping unsuspecting residents. The latest trick being used by these dupes is to open a Facebook page using the photographs and information of highly placed individuals.
“The commissioner of police, Lagos State and former governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Tinubu, were impersonated by these cheats. The suspects have been arrested and are to be prosecuted.”
Owoseni said the suspects were soliciting for N20, 000 for the fake ‘CP Owoseni Foundation” when they were arrested by the police. The commissioner disclosed that he didn’t have a Facebook account and warned the public to be wary of these fraudsters as they were using names of highly placed men to defraud people.
Also, a retired traffic police officer who had been parading himself as deputy superintendent of police under the police state command was also arrested by security operatives. The suspect claimed he was only accompanying trucks with goods to the eastern part of the country.
Meanwhile, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode showed his willingness to put an end to the raging insecurity in the state by donating security equipment and vehicles to the state police command and the Rapid Response Squad valued at N4.765bn.
